How It Works

Selling a device to us runs from an instant quote through to payment, usually in a matter of days. This page walks through each step, what we need from you at that point, and how long it takes. It explains the process in plain terms — the binding version lives in our Terms & Conditions, and each step below links to the section that governs it.

1. Get an Instant Quote

Find your device and tell us about it. You’ll select the model, then the options that apply to it — storage capacity, carrier, and the condition it’s in. We price the quote from those answers and show it to you immediately.

Quotes are free, and getting one puts you under no obligation to sell.

Choosing the right condition

This is the answer that matters most. The condition you select is what your quote is based on, and it’s what our technicians check the device against when it arrives. Our Condition Guide describes each grade and the criteria behind it.

If you’re weighing two grades, pick the lower one. A device that turns out better than described can have its offer revised upward.

How quotes are priced and how long they are held is set out in Section 4 (Quotes, Pricing & Price Lock).

2. Place Your Order

Add the device to your cart and check out. You’ll need an account, and you’ll be asked for:

  • Your shipping address— where a prepaid label is addressed from, and where the device goes back to if the deal doesn’t complete.
  • A phone number and email address — our carrier requires both to issue a valid label.
  • How you want to be paid — Zelle, Venmo, or a mailed check. The available methods are described in Section 9 (Payment Methods & Processing).

Before you can confirm, you’ll be asked to check your device against the condition criteria one more time. It takes a moment and it’s the single best way to keep your quoted price intact.

Your 21-day price lock

Placing an order locks your quoted price for 21 days. As long as your device reaches us inside that window and matches what you described, that’s the price we pay. Arrive later and we may requote against current pricing — see Section 4 (Quotes, Pricing & Price Lock).

3. Ship Your Device

After checkout we email you a prepaid shipping label. Print it, attach it to your package, and drop it off with the carrier. Postage is on us.

Before you pack it

There are a few things to do first — signing out of your accounts, turning off activation locks, and erasing your data among them. The full list is in Section 5 (Preparing Your Device for Sale). A device that still has an activation lock on it cannot be processed.

Pack it well. Use a box with padding rather than a bare envelope. We are not responsible for devices damaged in transit because of insufficient packaging, and unless we’ve asked for them, leave chargers, cases, and other accessories out.

Shipping with your own carrier

You can opt out of our prepaid label at checkout and arrange your own shipping instead. People usually do this to insure the parcel for more than our label covers.

If you choose this, the address to send your device to is in your order confirmation email and on your confirmation page. Add your tracking number to your order once it’s on its way — we need it before the parcel arrives.

Insurance

Shipments sent on a GoSellDevices prepaid label are covered against loss in transit up to $200. If your device is worth more than that and you want it insured for its full value, buy the additional coverage before you ship. Packaging, insurance, and accessories are covered in Section 7 (Shipping & Delivery).

4. We Inspect Your Device

When your device arrives, our technicians check it against what you told us: the model, the storage capacity, the carrier, whether everything works, and its physical condition.

Most inspections are finished within 24 to 48 business hours of the device reaching our facility.

We also record the device’s IMEI, ESN, or serial number, and confirm it isn’t reported lost or stolen and isn’t blacklisted.

The final condition grade is determined by GoSellDevices during inspection. The full process is described in Section 6 (Device Inspection & Condition Assessment).

5. Your Final Offer

If the device matches what you described and arrived inside your price lock, we honor your original quote and move straight to payment.

If something differs

We issue a revised offer and email you about it. That happens when the condition doesn’t match the grade selected, when the model or specifications differ, when there’s damage we weren’t told about, or when the device arrives after the 21-day lock has expired.

A revision isn’t always downward. If the device is in better condition than you described, or is a more valuable model than the one selected, the offer goes up.

Responding

You have 7 calendar daysfrom the date a revised offer is sent to accept or decline it. If we don’t hear from you in that time, the revised offer is treated as accepted and payment is processed.

Decline it and, where the device qualifies, we ship it back to you at no cost. How revised offers and returns work is set out in Section 8 (Inspection Results, Revised Offers & Returns).

6. Get Paid

Once your final offer is accepted, we pay you by the method you chose at checkout — Zelle, Venmo, or a mailed check.

Payments are issued within 24 to 48 business hours of the offer being accepted. A mailed check will then take additional time to reach you in the post.

Make sure the payment details on your order are correct before you check out. Payment terms are in Section 9 (Payment Methods & Processing).

7. If You Change Your Mind

You can cancel an order before your device is inspected. The conditions, and how to do it, are in Section 10 (Order Cancellation).

Once a device has been inspected and an offer accepted, the sale is complete and it cannot be reversed. If you’ve been sent a revised offer and simply want your device back, decline the offer — see Section 8 (Inspection Results, Revised Offers & Returns).

8. How Long It All Takes

Every step has its own clock. These are the ones worth knowing:

  • 21 days — how long your quoted price is held from the day you order. Your device needs to reach us inside this window.
  • 24 to 48 business hours — typical inspection time once your device arrives.
  • 7 calendar days — how long you have to respond to a revised offer before it is treated as accepted.
  • 24 to 48 business hours — how quickly payment is issued after your final offer is accepted.

Shipping time depends on your carrier and sits outside these figures.
