Privacy Policy
We collect what we need to buy your device, pay you, and get it shipped — and nothing we don’t. This policy explains exactly what that means in practice.
1. Who This Policy Covers
This Privacy Policy explains how GoSellDevices collects, uses, shares, and protects personal information when you visit our website, create an account, request a quote, or sell a device to us.
It applies to our website and buyback service only. It does not apply to third-party websites or services that we link to, which are governed by their own privacy policies.
Selling a device to us is also governed by our Terms & Conditions.
2. Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of information.
Information you provide directly
- Account details — your name, email address, and a password. Passwords are stored only as a cryptographic hash; we never store or have access to your plain-text password.
- Device details — the model, storage capacity, carrier, and condition you select when requesting a quote.
- Shipping details — the first and last name, street address, city, state, ZIP code, country, phone number, and email address you enter at checkout. A phone number and email address are required because our shipping carrier needs them to generate a valid label.
- Payment details — the payment method you choose (Zelle, Venmo, or check) and the information needed to pay you through it, such as the email address, mobile number, or payee name and mailing address associated with that method.
- Messages — any messages you send us about an order, along with our replies.
Information we generate or receive
- Order records — your quoted price, any revised offer, the final agreed amount, and the status of your order.
- Shipping and tracking information — the shipping label, tracking number, and carrier service associated with your inbound shipment and any return shipment.
- Device identifiers — the IMEI, ESN, or serial number of a device you send us, recorded during inspection. We use these to confirm that a device is not reported lost or stolen and is not blacklisted, as required by our Condition Guide.
- Technical information — standard server log data such as IP address, browser type, and the pages requested, used to keep the service secure and working correctly.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your personal information to:
- Create and maintain your account.
- Generate quotes and process the orders you place.
- Produce prepaid shipping labels and track shipments to and from our inspection facility.
- Inspect and verify devices, including confirming ownership eligibility where a device appears blacklisted or reported lost or stolen.
- Notify you about revised offers and send the reminder emails described in Section 8 (Inspection Results, Revised Offers & Returns) of our Terms & Conditions.
- Issue payment through your chosen payment method.
- Respond to your support enquiries.
- Detect, investigate, and prevent fraud or misuse of our service.
- Meet our legal, tax, accounting, and record-keeping obligations.
We do not use your personal information to make automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you. Condition grading and final offers are determined by our technicians, as described in Section 6 (Device Inspection & Condition Assessment).
5. Data Stored on Your Device
This section concerns the data on the device you send us, which is different from the account information we hold about you.
You are responsible for removing all personal data from your device before you ship it, including performing a full factory reset, signing out of all accounts, disabling activation locks, and removing SIM and memory cards. These steps are set out in Section 5 (Preparing Your Device for Sale) of our Terms & Conditions.
As stated in those Terms, we are not responsible for personal data that remains on a device when we receive it. As a safeguard, every device we accept is factory reset and securely erased before it is resold or recycled — but this is a backstop, not a substitute for wiping the device yourself, and it does not apply to data that has already been exposed in transit.
We do not browse, copy, or extract the contents of devices sent to us. Inspection is limited to verifying the model, storage capacity, carrier, functionality, physical condition, and lock or blacklist status.
7. How Long We Keep Your Information
We keep personal information for as long as it is needed for the purpose it was collected for, and then for as long as we are required to keep it by law.
- Account information — kept while your account is open. If you close your account, we delete or anonymise information we no longer need.
- Order, payment, and shipping records — retained after an order completes to meet tax, accounting, audit, and fraud-prevention obligations, and to resolve any dispute about a transaction.
- Device identifiers — retained as part of the record of devices we have purchased, which we may need in order to respond to a law-enforcement enquiry about a specific device.
- Support messages — retained with the order they relate to.
Where we no longer need information but cannot delete it immediately — for example because it is in a backup — we isolate it from further use until deletion is possible.
8. How We Protect Your Information
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information, including encrypted connections to our website, hashed password storage, access controls limiting which staff can view customer records, and restricted administrative access to our systems.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you and the relevant authorities where the law requires it.
You are responsible for keeping your account password confidential. Please contact us immediately if you believe your account has been accessed without your permission.
9. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights over your personal information:
- Access — request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correction — ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
- Deletion — ask us to delete your personal information, subject to records we are legally required to keep.
- Portability — request your information in a portable format.
- Opt out of sale or sharing — we do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of.
- Non-discrimination — we will not deny you service or offer you different pricing because you exercised a privacy right.
California residents have these rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act. Residents of other states with comprehensive privacy laws have comparable rights.
To make a request, contact us using the details in Section 12 (Contact Us). We will verify your identity before acting on a request, usually by confirming control of the email address on your account. You may use an authorised agent to submit a request on your behalf.
10. Children's Privacy
Our service is not directed to children. You must be at least 18 years old to sell a device to us, as required by Section 1 (Eligibility) of our Terms & Conditions.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have, we will delete it. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to our service, our providers, or the law. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised.
Changes take effect once published on this page. If we make a material change to how we use your personal information, we will provide additional notice — by email or a prominent notice on the site — before the change takes effect.
12. Contact Us
If you have a question about this policy, or want to exercise any of the rights described in Section 9 (Your Privacy Rights), contact us at:
Please include enough detail for us to identify your account or order. We aim to respond to privacy requests within 45 days, and will tell you if we need more time.
This policy sits alongside our Terms & Conditions, which govern the sale itself, and our Condition Guide, which defines how device condition is graded.
